Hands down, this is one of the most amazing adventures I have been on . I wish I could shout from the rooftops how lucky I am to be doing these things with my husband and daughter. When I was younger, I never dreamed of doing these things. I truly thought the bank building by the highway was a skyscraper and a natural wonder was the man-made lake at my apartment complex because it had ducks and snakes. And here I am. Here we are. Driving up and down a winding mountain road to see a black sand beach. On the other side of the world. Something I had never even heard of. I always joke that I feel like we are in Alice in Wonderland over here. Living in an English speaking country where everything is just slightly different, it really starts to mess you with. In the best way. This was one of the times things weren’t just slightly different, they were like nothing you have imagined. Hope you enjoy the video and the photos!
cCrazy how my dark brown hair looks so light in contrast to the black sand, right?
Leona was so blissful on this trip, you could tell she felt so free. There were barely any people there and so much space for us all to run around.
We had just one small incident. Leona suddenly noticed her shadow here. She was not pleased to have this new friend following her. We did all we could to show her that shadows are fun. It mostly worked. And just like all typical kiddos, stomping on our shadows was the best medicine. Why do they love to see us get hurt? haha
This is what dreams are made of. I will cherish these photos and this experience for the rest of my life. A note to my child (and y’all too): Go on as many adventures as you can, ok? You will never regret and almost always leave as a better person than when you arrived.
